Our Mission Is to Help Advance an International Economic
Order That Benefits People Everywhere

The global economy is undergoing a historic, once in many generations’ transformation as security concerns and protectionism upend eighty years of ever closer integration. In parallel, emerging technologies are rapidly reshaping the global economy. AI can raise living standards for everyone or for only a few. Geopolitically driven policies can improve national security or further fragment the global economy and damage development. Which outcomes prevail will depend on the choices we make now.

The Global Economics Lab will help inform and shape those choices. The task is not to restore yesterday’s international economic order, but to advance better and pragmatic solutions that benefit people everywhere, suited to the realities of our times.

Our focus is the global economy

The Global Economics Lab is a non-partisan organization located at Harvard and draws on a network of faculty affiliates across universities. We conduct policy-relevant research on the forces reshaping the global economy. We engage with governments, central banks, companies, multilaterals, and civil society organizations to translate that research into action.
