It is in the interest of all governments, companies, civil society organizations and people to have a new and improved international economic order that addresses legitimate grievances with globalization and helps leverage the true potential of emerging technologies. This requires intellectual leadership on complex interconnected macroeconomic policies, frank discourse, and creative solutions. Independent researchers at universities have a distinct advantage in delivering this mix as compared to individual governments or multilateral institutions with specific mandates and competing shareholder priorities.
The Global Economics Lab will help fill this gap.
Our focus is the global economy, and the markets and institutions that connect it. The defining economic challenges of our time do not stop at national borders, and neither should the analysis needed to address them. Important macro-financial questions remain unanswered, particularly for LMICs.
We will implement our mission through:
- Engagement with leaders in governments, central banks, companies, multilaterals and civil society organizations on strategies rooted in sound economics that promote policies, markets, and institutions, tailored to the realities of emerging technologies, geopolitics, and development challenges.
- Research and dissemination of the structural and cyclical shifts in the global economy to arrive at shared diagnosis and implementation of sound policies. Bring together top faculty, post-docs and students in macroeconomics, international finance and trade to deliver cutting edge research and actionable insights.
- Training of the next generation of policymakers and researchers on evolving global challenges and opportunities.
- Academic excellence. The Lab draws on the intellectual strength of faculty and students spanning multiple institutions.
- Leadership experience. The Lab team comprises faculty who combine academic excellence with experience at the highest levels of economic policymaking.
- A global focus. Our work focuses on the global economy and seeks to answer the most pressing economic questions in ways that benefit people everywhere.
